OK with those programs you have to chose what music you let become avalible to other people. I have been downloading for years and this is the main thing to remember
1) anything you download has no copyright info on it so, no one can tell you that knew what you were doing was wrong. Prime example do read every copyright info every time you download Something?
2) In most of the cases of thirteen yr olds getting arrested for mp3 sharing it was because they were setting up there own "napster" style sites all the torrents sites now are based in other countries like Russia and northern Europe where Copyright laws are either lax or all together  not there In this particular case the woman was warned that she was downloading copyrighted info and she stupidly chose to ignore it
3) Whoever write this letter does not understand the p2p network it works on a different idea than the internet every computer is identified as a peer or as a leech period their is no way of seeing who you are downloading it to or from.
4) Simply having this software on your computer does mean anything. you have to enable it to share anything.

all in all i havent bought a movie, cd or software in years and i havent been sued or arrested so ask your friends about the only problem i have had is i downloaded an old trojan which my antivirus picked up right away

Warning About File Sharing

The Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) recently won a lawsuit against a single mom in Minnesota who had file sharing software on her computer and was sharing music files. She was sued for 24 of the songs she was sharing and the RIAA won $222,000 from her in court.

Why am I telling you this?

You or your children may be knowingly or unknowingly sharing music on the Internet that could put you at risk for the same type of lawsuit. Most of the files sharing programs are freely available on the Internet. When installed on your computer it will make your music available to the rest of the Internet community for sharing. Because you are not anonymous on the Internet the RIAA can contact your Internet service provider to get your name and address so they can file a lawsuit against you. You do not knowingly have to be sharing music or actually have anyone downloading the music from you. Just the mere making it available is grounds for a lawsuit and they will win.

If you have any of these programs on your computer, you have file sharing (peer-to-peer) software.

? Aimster
? Kazaa
? iMesh
? Morpheus
? Grokster
? LimeWire
? BearShare

You need to uninstall and remove the software immediately.

There are now legal ways to download music for a small fee. Here is a small list of legal music stores on the Internet.

? iTunes.com (if you have a iPod)
? eMusic.com
? Amazon.com
? Wallmart.com

If you have any questions about removing file sharing software from your computer. Please feel free to ask me any questions.
