So, I'm one of the people that wants to make use of more than 2 gigs of ram, among other things, but doesn't want to go to Vista. I have Windows XP 64 bit Professional. I love XP, so I figure, this is all good in the hood, right?

Wrong.

I bought a Zune 80 gig, and thought, mistakenly, that Microsoft would surely support their own operating system. As it happens to be, Zune software is NOT compatable with XP 64 bit Pro. Does anyone know of anything that I can use to bludgen microsoft... er, I mean, DO to get Zune to work on my OS?

I tried doing the hack trick, that requires I install it on (someone elses) another XP 32 bit machine, but nothing I could do would get that to work. I kept getting messages telling me I needed to restart after setup. (I did, several times, and no dice.)

It'd be so much easier if Microsoft would just support their own OS like a good little super-corperation.

I just bought a Zune 120 and fell into this problem too. psouza4, I sent you an e-mail asking for the install pkg. I would gladly try this out for you because it seems as well that i have no luck in finding any help for getting a program for my os. Thank you!

I've developed an install package that installs the necessary files, registers the right DLLs, installs the device driver, adds registry information, etc. but it's about 90 MB so before I go put it out on the internet, I'm looking for some guinea pigs to test it for me.

E-mail me at psouza4@yahoo.com if you'd like a copy.  No guarantees it will work or that I'll send it to you (I'm a little concerned I'll get flooded here).  If it's a success, I'll post again with a download link.

Cheers!
OK, I just emailed you and joined the site today (see how you are increasing members?).  I hope that this allows me to use my Zune now.  I did install the Zune 3.0 x86 software on a VM on this box (my x64 XP box) and was able to install the XP x86 and the regular software and connect to it that way, but what a pain.  I would rather run it natively.  I'll PM you as well psouza4.

It would seem as though I'm in the same boat as most of you guys.. I'm running Windows XP Pro x64 and I've tried all sorts of patches and walkthroughs to get it to install, but I still end up with a message saying "Zune has encountered a problem and needs to close, so sowwie" (as opposed to the message saying that my OS wasn't supported, which I would get before all of the patches).

I will contact psouza4 through e-mail, then, I suppose.

Has anyone found this driver?

ZuneUsbCOnnection.dll

I am running Windows Home XP and BEFORE I upgraded to Zune 3, the only complaint I had was about the awkwardness of the software. Now I can get Zune recognized by my PC, but always get the error of a missing driver (see above) have tried all the fixes I can find, including switching out the USB port it's plugged in to, but I STILL am getting the error message about the .dll file.

My Zune is not even a year old yet and it's too small to be used for a paper weight, and I would REALLY REALLY like to use it. Any ideas, short of trying to even find an MS support phone?

thank you in advance,
