ugh i was having the same problems lastnight when i went to upload some new vids and music to the stupid pain in my rear.

going through the unzoon-ing process. trying to hard reset it but it doesnt seem to go through at the moment.

trying to start off fresh and -hopefully- it works.

wish me luck

===========================
so much for luck. the XP PC (where all the music is stored) still cycles through the connect/disconnect sequence.

for gits and shiggles i looked around and lo and behold there is a zune for 64 bit vista now. so i installed that on my laptop. smooth as glass no problems at all. ugh...

==================

tried a well-hidden port on the back of the machine. that along with the software reinstall seemed to do the trick

All of a sudden whenever I hook up my Zune to my PC, no matter what USB slot, my computer doesn't recognize Zune. Well it does, in a way, you can hear the alert sound for a connecting/disconnecting usb device going on and off constantly. Zune software does not recognize it nor does windows, yet the device will charge if i leave it doing it's connecting/disconnecting thing for awhile.

Has anyone experienced this? Anyone have any tips/solutions? I'd really appreciate any help, thanks.

Oh yeah, I'm using XP.

It seems like it was something on my side causing the problem, not zune. I'm not exactly sure what I did but I must of uninstalled some programs and that fixed it. See if your Zune works on another computer, if it doesn't then there's most likely something wrong with the zune itself but in most cases it's most likely your software/drivers causing the issue.

I have a similar problem. I connect it and it shows up in the Device Manager but it always fails to install the driver software. I don't understand the problem i have reinstalled Zune software multiple times and tried multiple ports. It just won't install the driver software.

I've had the same problem - I've tried every step listed here, and also uninstalled and installed my USB drivers. No matter what I do, I still have the same problem.

It's my friend's zune. She can hook it up to her comptuer and not have the problem. However, I believe the problem's related to the driver involved - it doesn't start doing this connect/disconnect :001_9898: until the driver is installed. I've used both the 1.0 and 1.2 drivers - with no luck.

So if anyone figures this out.....I'm glad I personally didn't buy a zune.

On my desktop computer, I can't seem to charge/connect/sync the Zune. All other USB devices (printer/scanner/mouse/webcam) work fine. I tried multiple ports. I get the repeating bing-bong sound every 3 seconds.
The exact same Zune and software work fine on my laptop. Same level XP SP2 on both computers. Two multi-hour calls to tech support have not fixed the problem, so I just gave up and use the laptop.

Check to see if you have libusb installed. I installed it to support another usb device. Removing it seemed to fix my connnect problem.

Hey guys,

Just won a Zune 30GB Halo 3 Edition, and couldn't get it to work. Tried everything, unistalled Zune, uninstalled drivers, disconnected, reconnected, rebooted my laptop, rebooted the Zune itself, nothing worked for more than a few seconds. I read a post above that recommended unistalling LibUSB. Well, I tried it and everything is working fine now. For vista users, here's an easy way to do it.

Open start menu
Type "libusb" into the little search bar at the bottom
"Uninstall LibUSB-Win32" should appear at the top. Click it and click next to uninstall.

Worked like a charm for me.

I got this from the microsoft/zune web site:

SYMPTOMS
If you reset your Zune device, the device incorrectly repeats the restore process. The Zune device automatically starts the restore process after a reset. However, after the step where the firmware is installed, the device repeatedly restarts and runs the restore process instead of completing the process.
CAUSE
Defective harddrive
