hey fellow zuners,

I updated my zune software the other day to v2.1. After it finished installing i hit launch and nothing happened. I can see a process called ZuneBusEnum.exe is running but there is no zune program on my screen. It used to work with the old software and my computer is good enough to run it. I've tried to reinstall it about 5 times, restarted a bunch of times, but nothing seems to work. I live in Canada and ive had the zune for a few months now, so if anyone else is having this problem or if you have a solution it would be greatly appreciated.

Sean

I now have the same problem once I've updated..I actually was running the update for a little while.. experienced problems when I first loaded it.. It asked me if I could see properly or something like that... I clicked NO and I was able to use the software.. but today..after updating a video driver of mine.. I noticed that it just appears blank again.. Can't figure out how to revert it.. Reinstalled to no avail..If you come up with something.. let me know.. thanks

Same issue here...

After update, zune.exe shuts down so fast sometimes that you can't even see it.
3 other zune processes still running(2 new and 1 old)

I have uninstalled and re-installed 9 times and reverted back to v1.x from disk and have all be "good again".

When running version 1.x software states firmware is up-to-date at v1.4???
(tried updating firmware before software install thinking that was it...nope!)

Without software running it is impossible to update firmware.
Without new firmware...software will not run.

Tried compatibility mode for w2000 like vista users did ...no go!

Disabled all other zune processes through services and zune.exe still will not start.

Software states to "make sure zune is not plugged in when updating software to version 2x"...have tried both ways and both ways do not work.
Both ways left my machine finding my zune, installing the drivers and nothing else. Zune.exe v2x will not stay running!

A free program "unzune" was then used to screw things up worse.
quess it was made for pre-v2x (further google readings) and is known to screw it up worse with v2x...go figure.

Then machine states software was installed when it was gutted by unzune but is still listed in add/remove but will not un-install from add/remove!
Tried to re-install and states already installed!

Now we go to the registry... : )

Delete ALL ZUNE...: )

Easy enough to search windows explorer and unhide all the **** that's hidden and delete ALL ZUNE from there too huh?...yep.

install v2x for the umteenth time and....no go...will not stay running.
un-install v2x and revert back to v1x and all is good again!

What I find the hardest to believe is that there are very few comments about this "bug" and minimal google hits pertaining to it's existence.

Why is Microsoft doing this to me?

I would love to try new firmware and software but noooOOooo...gotta go and make it suck for ...a few of us...I guess.

If any one would be kind enough to post a fix for this...please have at it.

Well im glad to know im not to only one with this problem, but i have managed to get it to open sometimes! The only thing is, I dont know why. I plug my zune into my computer and leave it to sleep, work, etc. Sometimes when i come back to it and log back onto my windows account the zune software is there! I can put some files on and all that fun stuff but once i close it its gone until this happens randomly again. My computer is decent so its not like its just really slow at opening it. Im using a AMD 64 X2 6000+ processor which i know has caused problems with other programs in the past, could that be the case here?

let me know if you guys have that same processor or if you have found a cure.

i bought a 2nd gen zune 4 at gamestop yesterday, brought it home, downloaded the software, and it didn't work. i tried uninstaling, reinstalling, i talked to 3 different technical support people...and nothing worked. i'm running windows xp service pack 2, i meet all the requirements and everything but it won't work. my dad suggested windows update, so i'll try that to see if maybe there's an update needed, but if anyone has any idea on how to fix this, please let me know. once again, im running a brand new 2nd gen zune with software version 2.3.

Try this:
1) Start->Run->regedit
2) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Zune\GeneralS ettings
3) Right click and click New->DWORD Value. Name it ReevaluateVideoSettings
4) Right click again and create a new DWORD Value. Name it UseGDI.
5) Press enter, then right click it again and click Modify
6) Change the Value Data to 1. It should be hexadecimal by default.
7) Restart the zune software.
I had the same problem and that fixed it maybe it'll fix it for you too. I found it here http://www.lockergnome.com/digged/2007/11/16/120/
