Not sure if this post would go in here.

As you all know if you have itunes music that you purchased from itunes that those files will not transfer to your zune b/c they are "protected" or "m4p" files. Well not any longer there are plenty of programs now that will remove that protection and allow the files to be played on your zune. I currently use "SoundTaxi" it was a free trial but cost about $15 to own, and it has been well worth it.

We've been converting everything downloaded from iTunes to mp3 anyway so I had no problems loading my Zune. Now, I just have to rip all my CD's.

This would be really useful for me, since almost all my songs are already in iTunes.

Are Rhapsody and Napster worth it? I thought Napster was subscription based. Wouldn't it be great if everyone just sucked it up and offered mp3 versions of all their stuff?

doh! I meant to say, "I know this ISN'T the perfect solution.

I personally think the Rhapsody subscription account is worth it. I've been keeping my whole family's mp3 players filled with current (and classic) tunes for over a year.

Subscription content is definetly not for those trying to build a music library. But, with my Rhapsody subscription...I have (access to) a bigger library than any one individual could possibly own.

I plan on signing up for a Zune Marketplace subscription as soon as my 2-week free trial runs out. ...I'm thinking about dropping Rhapsody as I now have a Zune, my wife is using a Shuffle-G2,...and for my daughter...well, I might just have to buy her a Zune of her own onatello:

Once you cancel the subscription, you lose everything you have, right? I'm much more of a permanent library building girl, myself.

I know this is the perfect solution, but if you have purchased content that is DRM/I-Tunes protected content, burn the content to CD (which you've paid for the rights to do), then rip the tracks into your Zune library.

This might take awhile if you've purchased alot of music from Rhapsody/Napster/I-Tunes, but the benefit would be that you'd have a copy on CD if anything ever happened to your digital media.

Happy Zune'ing!!!

This works, except that now you have the artist's CD quality audio encoded to AAC (lossy) from iTunes, burned to CD, then re-encoded to mp3 or wma or whatever (lossy), so you have now lost even more sound quality. Unless you import the tunes onto the Zune from the CD in some sort of lossless format, which I'm not sure the Zune supports. Apple lossless is great, except it eats up disk space really quick.

I've used SoundTaxi too. I've also had a good experience with TuneBite. Pretty much does the same thing as SoundTaxi. It's nice being able to "free" locked music that I've bought.
