It's Jan. 2 and my Zune 30 is still frozen. I'm really quite distressed at this point. "Be patient and it'll fix itself" just ain't feeding the bulldog anymore. I can honestly say that when I can afford the expense I'll go with anything not associated with Microsoft. My pc is going to get a different os and Bill Gates can suck a fart out of my a__! I don't know if I will get an Ipod or not, but whatever my choice, Microsoft will not be associated with it. I know it won't, but I hope their stock goes in the crapper.

If your zune is still frozen and out of warrenty which mine was then you have everything to gain.

i had to do the battery reset, as well as a hard restart.

here is the link to walk you through a hard reset.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927001/?sd=zune

do all of those steps and if you do it right, will work.  it was the only thing that worked for me.

im sure you tried this already, but when you drained the battery, did you wait an hour before you tried to recharge it again?  a zune tech guy told me you have to do that.

if that fails, you'll probably have to do the hard reset erasing everything though. possibly in conjunction with the battery reset.  i unplugged the battery, and plugged it back in. once i did that the zune would power up into the normal screen, but the pad was unresponsive.  once you get to the main menu, then you can reboot, and finally do the hard reset.  the link says exactly how to do it.

ive already tried the battery reset and i see no way possible of doing the hard reset since my zune has only 2 states of being: 1. on but frozen on boot screen unresponsive to any combination of button pushes.
                                                                                                                                                                                      2. Dead and totally unresponsive(which is very nearly as entertaining as the first state just a little less bright)
Who buys an eltronic device like this for entertainment purposes though? What was i thinking? ive got it charging yet again in hopes that the button combo (left arrow/up does something. It won't. It hasn't yet

what a piece of microsoft sh_t! Bill Gates, you are right up there with G.W. Bush in the running for the "Shi-stain who shouldnt be allowed to live any longer" award. YOU AND YOUR COMPANY SUCK!! I suppose if I keep expressing how angry I am I'll get banned or something like that but I see no reason to be happy about this. Expensive toy from Microsoft = Bad decision. I cant help but feel as if someone should be giving me a reach-around right now. And use a little lube, would ya? This hurts.

ok here is exactly what i did.  when you have the case off of it, use your thumb nail to pop open both of the connections where the two ribbons go in, on both sides of the zune.  then, first press down the short ribbon's connector on the left side, then press battery ribbon connector on the right side.  once you do this, the zune should power up with the loading screen, then go to the main menu (but the d-pad will still be unresponsive for navigating).  once you get to the main menu, you need to re-boot it with back+up.  the zune will shut down, and begin to power up again.  as SOON as the screen lights up, press and hold back, center button, and left all at the same time.  this will begin the hard restart.

make sure you reboot it first because otherwise i dont think it will work.  also, make sure your battery is pretty well charged before you do the reset, otherwise it will die in the middle of the reset.  also, you cant have it plugged in while you do this.

so once you do the back, center, and left combo the screen will say that it's resetting or something like that, and it will take a few minutes to clear itself of all data.

once you clear it, it will prompt you to connect it to your pc.  then you can re-install the firmware to the device.  and finally you can put all of your content back on it too (which only took me about an hour)

let me know if you get stuck on any of these steps, and if it does or doesn't work for you.  and if my directions give you trouble, you can go to

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927001/?sd=zune

for a little more detailed directions on resetting it.

unplugging the battery and the other ribbon is the way to get your zune to power up onto the main menu.  for all of you who cant get there- read my last post it will tell you how exactly to fix it.  i had the same problem many of you still have.

I've charged it all night. I've taken it apart for the 100th time. I've done the hard reset for the 100th time. All that happens is this: 1. the boot screen comes up (we're all familiar with that screen, aren't we) 2. the screen goes blank (with a faint hint of background light) 3. the boot screen comes back up and locks till the battery dies. then i do all this again after a charge. ive gotten pit-crew-fast at taking this paperweight apart and "resetting" it. It just doesnt work. ive connected the ribbons in the proper order every time. this method just fails on this zune. I'm happy for those of you that got your zunes back. I just cant join your little club.
