Not sure how common this issue is, but in all my nosing around the internet, I have yet to find an answer. Not sure if anyone can help here, but worth a shot.

Is there some email address for microsoft that deals with zune issues?

Anyway, I got my Zune 80 2 days ago now. I downloaded the software, installed everything fine, updated to the latest firmware, and even synced up my entire music collection as well as signing up and syncing a few podcasts. I had to go, so I unplugged and left.

When I next came back to the computer, I opened up the software and plugged my Zune in. I started fiddling with some songs and then noticed that it still said no device connected. Weird. I pulled the cable out, and put it back in. Nothing. I restarted the program and pulled the cable out before starting it up and plugging it in. Nothing. I rebooted the computer and tried again. Nothing. This was starting to suck.

I began searching online, and tried various things. Tried every USB 2.0 slot on the computer, 2 in front and 4 in back. Nothing. Rebooted the zune multiple times. Tried updating driver, and then updating it while manually point it towards the specific directory. COMPLETELY removed the zune software and every remnant file of it and reinstalled it. Updated windows vista as far as I could.

Nothing has worked so far. I'm starting to get ticked off. The only reason I am not freaking out is, hey, I got my entire collection on the device, and it charges fine, so it isn't a super immediate need. But having a complete freeze and inability to add or remove anything gets old over time.

My THOUGHT is that it may have something to do with the 2.3 firmware and vista 32-bit, though I am obviously not sure. If there is any solution whatsoever, or hell, a guess as to what could help, let me know. I'd prefer not to do a complete restart on my zune, because if any method involving it doesn't work, not only can I not sync but I have no music. I have a $250 backlit nightlight.

Oh, and now when I plug it in it says "Installing Driver Device..." followed by "Device driver software was not succesfully installed". If you need ANY more info, just ask.

SORRY TO HEAR YOUR PROBLEM, I HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM. MY COMPUTER WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE ZUNE. WHEN I PLUG IT IN IT GIVES THREE GONG NOISES BUT WILL NOT READ THE ZUNE. IT WORKS JUST FINE, THE MUSIC PLAYS, EVERYTHING IS GOOD, IT JUST WON'T SYNC WITH THE COMPUTER. I DIDN'T DROP IT. I DIDN'T DISCONNECT IN THE MIDDLE OF ANYTHING, NONE OF THAT. I JUST PLUGGED IN ONE DAY SO I CAN LOAD SOME MUSIC AND NOTHING. THE PROGRAM WORKS FINE OTHER THEN IT WON'T READ THE ZUNE ITSELF. I 'VE SEARCHED EVERYWHERE ON THE NET. IT'S LIKE WE'RE LOST IN SPACE WITH THIS THING. NO SUPPORT FROM MICROSOFT, THATS WACK... HIT ME UP IF YOU HEAR ANYTHING AND I'LL DO THE SAME.. WICKEDMINDS18@AOL.COM THX BRO, AND MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU...
